Software Designer – Game Designer

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic game/level/software designer to join our team. While we are, in a classical sense, a technology and software development company, we are also very much embedded into the research, development, and educational activities of our parent company – the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.

To qualify for this position you must have previous experience with game design and a sound understanding of game mechanics. Creativity and strong visual aesthetics are also a must. That said, and most of all, you should love and appreciate range. In our view, as a gamer, you should be interested in (enhancing) the overall human experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop concepts, designs and game-play mechanics
  • Conceptualise, test, measure and report on design implementations
  • Collaborate with artists, the design & programming teams develop prototypes
  • Research subject matter to create accurate, unique and compelling environments
  • Ensure balance between game/level aesthetics and technical limitations
  • Work closely with project leads to identify and resolve issues
  • Review design and development work on a regular basis to ensure execution is in line with overall vision and quality standards
  • Relentlessly aim to understand and design experiences conducive to enhanced and accelerated personal and professional learning and development

Your profile:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in game design and development (equivalent: independent development, academic project work – please provide examples of finished work)
  • Bachelor's degree in arts (ideally with a focus on game design)
  • Measurable understanding of overall game design, storytelling, game mechanics, level flow, pacing etc.
  • Excellent visualization skills combined with good spatial and layout design skills
  • Good sense of aesthetics, design, colours and an eye for composition
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well in small teams and stick to tight schedules
  • Knowledge of web application standards; JavaScript-based UI-frameworks is a definite plus
  • Absolute interest in collaboration with the full range of characters in our environment
  • Working knowledge of English and German, an additional language is a plus
